May 2nd - May 9th 2016
At Cortijo Las Salinas, Jaen, Spain.
Includes all meals, luxury accommodation, art tuition, art materials, yoga, dance, hiking and exploration.
Art and creativity, yoga, gentle dance classes, a flamenco night, a paella night, olive oil tasting, wild orchid hunting, and exploration of local beauty spots and historic towns and villages.
During the workshop, we danced Five Rhythms in the yoga shala, used creative writing methods, created stories and poetry, laughed, (a lot) cried, shared stories. We had a fire pit in the shala, overlooking olive tree mountains with incredible golden and sienna light and shade. We made body maps, identifying parts of our beings which needed healing or releasing, and created life-size empowering Goddess paintings, which told stories of our journeys through life and our desires of that which we wish to manifest. It became quite obsessive, the act of painting with dear, close friends and the more we painted, the more was released and revealed. Art and painting is so healing, rejuvenating and empowering.

Details and some ideas for painting and creating:
All materials will be provided and we will be using the spacious art studio. No prior painting experience is necessary, just a willingness to explore.
One of the ways we can use the creative process is by painting what we wish to manifest in life. This may be love, inner peace, joy, abundance, etc. This can be in the form of canvas painting, drawing, collage, vision boards, etc. Painting what we want more of in our lives. In a sense, paintings can be seen as 'spells'.. so we can paint the dream or desire.
(When Henri Matisse created his collage masterpiece for the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence, he had finally realized his long-standing dream of 'an art of balance, of purity and serenity.' 'I believe my role is to provide calm,' he said in 1950, 'because I myself have need of peace.' )
If you don't fell confident about figurative painting, we can use abstract techniques, collage, create vision boards. using different materials, which will be provided. We will help guide you if you need guidance. You just need a desire to learn, create, explore, play and discover the feeling of peace and joy that art, painting and creativity can provide. We can explore painting techniques and will listen to you and give you tuition and facilitation in creating. I am deeply inspired by spiritual and sacred imagery and icons such as Fra Angelico's work. Also we might be moved to read a short poem or inspirational quote, share a story or two, read a passage from a book, look at art work or imagery that inspires us, or listen to a piece of music. My background is in fine art and the history of art and I have a B.A. Hons degree in Fine Art. I have been a painter all my life. I am happy to share my experience and knowledge.
As an alternative, some people can choose to work from the imagination and we can discuss what inspires us. We can set up still-lives such as bowls of fruit, objects from nature, flowers etc and you can choose to work from these. We will be using, paint, decoupage, collage, drawing, and using canvas and/or fine art paper depending on personal preference. The course is not rigid or highly structured, but designed with flow, heart, healing and bliss through art and creativity. All materials will be provided. The aim is to keep the art you produce not too large, so that you are then able to take it home with you. If you are interested in learning any of the techniques I use in my own work I will be delighted to show you.
The last art retreat workshop I held was so much fun. We spent a lot of the time laughing and sharing, story telling and of course painting. This retreat will offer even more, with yoga, dance, creative and intuitive writing, flamenco, olive oil tasting, wild orchid hunting and exploring.
We will break for lunch at two o’clock. Evening meal will be at approximately 8pm.
Take a rest from the rat-race, and create with like-minded people.
Outdoor landscape painting will be an option at any time for those who are especially drawn to working from the landscape and observation.
Accommodation is lovely, beautifully decorated, clean, with en suite bathrooms in every apartment. There is a large swimming pool, an open-air, but shaded honesty bar, a jacuzzi, outdoor yoga studio/shala with amazing views.
